I am committed to retaining a very homely, caring and enabling environment where the children are gently nurtured and encouraged to try new things, in accordance with their stage of development; as their confidence and self-esteem grow. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming where children and their families are valued as individuals.
We support anti-discriminatory and inclusive working practices and promote children’s rights. Your childs’ welfare and happiness is our first priority and we ensure they receive the best possible care, highest levels of health and safety and are happily engaged at all times.
The nursery is run by myself and two other fully qualified, nurturing, experienced staff on a rota basis, so that there will always be a minimum of two people on duty at all times. With such a small number of children in our care, we will exceed the OFSTED recommended staff: child ratios, ensuring your child has a high level of 1:1 care and attention.
Although all staff are responsible for the general well-being of all of the children in our care, we operate a keyworker system so that each child has a dedicated member of staff who will work closely with them, being responsible for their care, nappy changes, daily observations, charting their development and liaising with parents.
All staff have clear CRB checks and Paediatric First Aid training, as an absolute minimum. We commit to each attend at least one training course each term to keep our skills and qualifications current. The core training courses of Paediatric First Aid, Child Protection, Health and Safety, Safer Moving and Handling, Equal Opportunities, Birth to Three Matters and Food Hygiene will be refreshed every three years.
Staff encourage the children to have consideration for others, especially the younger children, to have good manners and develop friendships. With such high staff ratios, each child is given individual attention at frequent times throughout the day helping them discover new skills and promote their interest in the activities available to them.
We believe that outdoor play is as important as indoor play for young children and we have an enclosed play area attached to the nursery that enables a free flowing indoor to outdoor experience, weather permitting of course, allowing the children to spend as much time outside as they wish, to
experience more freedom and sensory play. The doors are hooked back to prevent slamming and little fingers getting caught.
On fine days, when the ground is dry, outdoor play is extended out onto a large lawn and the toy vehicles are used on a large patio area.

This whole area is within two iron gates that are combination padlocked to prevent either the children leaving unsupervised or unwanted visitors entering the area.
If you are looking for a childcare solution where your child is mixing with more children than a childminder could be registered for, and with more than one experienced and qualified adult with them at all times; yet be part of a smaller setting than most of the large day nurseries in the area where the numbers of children could simply overwhelm your own child; then Little Red Hen Day Nursery could be just the place for you!
