About Florence Avenue

Little Red Hen Day Nurseries Ltd is owned and managed by Beverley Holt, mother of two and former childminder with many years childcare experience, who has always received the highest possible grading from OFSTED in her childcare inspections. She has built an excellent team of like-minded, caring, fully qualified and experienced childcare practitioners who support and further develop the excellent standards that have been attained so far.

A very homely, caring and enabling environmentWe are committed to retaining a very homely, caring and enabling environment where the children are gently nurtured and encouraged to try new things, in accordance with their stage of development; as their confidence and self-esteem grow. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming where children and their families are valued as individuals.

We support anti-discriminatory and inclusive working practices and promote children's rights. Your childs' welfare and happiness is our first priority and we ensure they receive the best possible care, highest levels of health and safety and are happily engaged at all times.

The nursery is run by a team of experienced staff who operate on a rota basis, ensuring that there will always be a minimum of two people on duty at all times. With such a small number of children in our care, we often exceed the OFSTED recommended staff: child ratios, ensuring your child has a high level of 1:1 care and attention.

We operate a keyworker systemAlthough all staff are responsible for the general well-being of all of the children in our care, we operate a key-carer system so that each child has a dedicated member of staff who will work closely with them, being responsible for their daily care, feeding, nappy changes, daily observations, charting their progress and development and liaising with parents.

All staff have clear CRB checks and Paediatric First Aid training, as an absolute minimum. We commit to each attend at least one training course each term to keep our skills and qualifications current. The core training courses of Paediatric First Aid, Child Protection, Health and Safety, Safer Moving and Handling, Equal Opportunities and Food Hygiene will be refreshed every three years; and other relevant workshops and courses will be attended according to the business need and the key-carer's need to progress with their professional development.

Staff encourage the children to have consideration for others, especially the younger children, and to have good manners and develop friendships. With such high staff ratios, each child is given individual attention at frequent times throughout the day helping them discover new skills and promote their interest in the activities available to them.

Outdoor play is as important as indoor playWe believe that outdoor play is as important as indoor play for young children and we have an enclosed play area attached to the nursery that enables a free flowing indoor to outdoor environment. We recently installed a rainproof canopy over this area, making it an all weather area. This allows the children to spend as much time outside as they wish; to experience more freedom and sensory play. The doors are hooked back to prevent slamming and little fingers getting caught; which creates a fresh, breezy atmosphere throughout the indoor area too.

Outdoor playOn fine days, when the ground is dry, outdoor play is extended out onto a large lawn, where we spend most of the day. The outdoor toys are set up in the garden and patio areas, where the children can ride bikes, make ramps from the tyres and planks we have, play football, water the plants, watch the rabbits in their run or just sit in the shade, reading stories or engaging in other activities of their choice.

Secure play areaThis whole area is within two iron gates that are combination padlocked to prevent both the children leaving unsupervised or unwanted visitors entering the area; and the children are never left unsupervised.

If you are looking for a childcare solution where your child is mixing with more children than a childminder could be registered for, and with more than one experienced and qualified adult with them at all times; yet be part of a smaller setting than most of the large day nurseries in the area where the numbers of children could simply overwhelm your own child; then this Little Red Hen Day Nursery could be just the place for you!
